We are looking for a Melt Deck Operator to join our operations in Decatur, Illinois.
PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Melt Deck Operator is responsible to control the operation of electric induction and resistance furnaces to melt ferrous and various non-ferrous alloys.
Task and Responsibilities:
Regulates the temperature of the furnace and charges a mixture of gates, scrap and ingot in the correct proportions and of the correct alloys.
Adds the necessary fluxes and master alloys to each heat.
Capable of calculating proper alloy additions to bring melt into foundry specifications.
Capable of basic computer skills in spreadsheets.
Basic understanding of metal chemistries, primarily in ductile iron melting.
Capable of making any necessary repairs to top cap and furnace spout.
Removes a sample of molten metal from furnace when metal is at proper temperature for lab testing.
Records temperatures and treatment additions for quality control requirements.
Removes slag from molten metal prior to tapping furnace.
Keeps melt deck supplied of melt supplies and alloys.
Capable of operating charge crane and forklifts.
Adhere to Nortrak’s Environmental, Safety and Quality Procedures, Practices and Policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
Prolonged periods of standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or climbing.
Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
Regularly lift and move up to 20-25 pounds, occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Hearing abilities related to job assigned.
Job Requirements (e.

education, experience, skills and desired competencies)
High School graduate or GED preferred.
1 - 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
Forklift and Crane certification preferred.
Foundry or manufacturing environment preferred.
Knowledge of operating Manuel conveyor preferred.
