Job Summary
The Assistant Director for Campus Visits provides strategic leadership, direction, and hands-on involvement to ensure the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign offers a best-in-class campus visit experience for prospective and admitted students.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Director of Recruitment and Outreach, this position will serve as a managing director for the planning, organizing, and hosting of on-campus and virtual programming.
The position will also serve as a visible member of the campus community, building relationships with necessary partners, including our colleges, cultural houses, housing units, new student programs, off-campus groups, and more.
Duties and Responsibilities - Leadership & Strategy Lead the way in creating an inclusive and intentional campus visit experience, designed to engage and ultimately enroll prospective and admitted undergraduate students Establish and maintain strong relationships between the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and campus/community partners to ensure communication and collaboration is ever present between key campus visit stakeholders Develop innovative in-person and virtual programming for a wide variety of audiences, including but not limited to first-year, transfer, in-state, out-of-state, international, and underrepresented students, with the goal of enhancing campus recruitment and yield initiatives Create positive, unique, and memorable experiences for students and guests that support and promote the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign brand Serve in a leadership capacity on the Campus Visit Team, regularly presenting helpful data, insights, ideas, and strategies to evolve and improve programming and the campus visit experience Remain connected to peers, trends, and best practices within the broader higher education campus visit sphere Leverage technology to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of campus visit operations and impact Gather and analyze event data, including attendee feedback, and prepare reports and summaries for stakeholders with the goal of informing future strategies Day-to-Day Operations Oversee and actively participate in the day-to-day campus visit operations for over 40,000 prospective visitors per year and the new student registration programming for over 17,000 visitors per year Monitor visitor engagement to ensure guests have a positive experience through all parts of the visiting process, including but not limited to event registration, attendance, and communication Create event programming, content, marketing collateral, and communications in close partnership with the Office of Communications for Enrollment Management and other members of the Campus Visit Team Develop event goals and attendance targets for each campus visit event Work in close collaboration with campus unit staff, faculty, and community partners such as academic colleges, departments, Financial Aid, Student Affairs, Housing, cultural houses, New Student and Family Experiences, and others to develop and implement coordinated recruitment and yield event programming Present to campus visitors on a routine basis as part of the regular campus visit agenda Serve as the functional lead for the Customer Relationship Management (Slate) and New Student Registration systems, leveraging the technologies for day-to-day efficiency Administer the campus visit budget, showcasing fiscal responsibility through oversight and proper allocation of funds Chair one first-year admissions review committee and possibly serve on additional review committees, reading applications, evaluating applicants, and making final admission decisions Supervision & Management Supervise or oversee the supervision of all professional, support, and student staff within the campus visits unit, and champion their training and professional development Conduct performance evaluations, set performance goals, and meet with direct reports regularly to review the status of their professional and personal goals Assist in training new and current staff members on presentations and provide regular feedback to all staff who give admissions presentations Provide guidance for professional staff who hire, train, and supervise student staff Cultivate a positive culture of growth, professionalism, creativity, innovation, and respect with the goal of building a united and productive team environment Be a model team player by eagerly serving and prioritizing the fair treatment of others Manage resources effectively to ensure work is optimized and employees are positioned for success Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree.
Three or more years of professional experience in event planning, customer service, or admissions, recruitment.
Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree.
Training and supervision experience.
Demonstrated experience in program planning.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Must be able to collaborate with multiple administrative and academic offices across campus to coordinate a systematic recruitment effort.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong presentation and interpersonal communication skills.
Dynamic personality.
High-quality customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Ability to maintain strong work ethic and handle high volume of work, execute projects simultaneously, set priorities and meet deadlines.
Understanding and commitment to affirmative action in educational access and employment.
Ability to lift and move heavy boxes of materials.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Customer Relationship Management systems.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis.
The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search.
Minimum salary for this position is $65k.

The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.
