*POSITION TITLE: Resident Director *
*JOB SUMMARY*
The Resident Director (RD) is responsible for providing leadership, management, and coordination of a residential community at Hendrick House (HH) dorm.
The RD creates positive student experiences, promotes a healthy living environment, maintains a culture conducive to study and provides oversite to Resident Advisors (RA).
This is not a full- time position, but does require living on-site, and being available after normal work hours.
*CRITICAL DUTIES* * Maintains familiarity with and enforces the rules and regulations of the University of Illinois Housing and Residential Life and Private Certified Housing (PCH) organizations, and the rules of Hendrick House.
Participates/collaborates in University Housing’s conferences and special events.
* Serves as secondary representative of HH to PCH, reporting back after meetings as needed.
* Interacts with prospective residents, current residents and parents from a wide variety of age groups, and social and ethnic backgrounds, providing them with personal and administrative support.
* Manages Resident Advisors (RA) by advising and supporting the development of various residential community social activities, educational and cultural development opportunities throughout the school year.
* Responds to in-house emergencies including but not limited to weather, fire, pandemics, and social unrest which may include working with outside emergency responders and other HH staff to minimize damage; during said times, provides guidance to HH staff and students during and after event.
* Applies conflict resolution skills and counseling techniques when responding to student crisis situations; counsels, advises, and provides appropriate support; provides appropriate post-crisis referrals and follow-up with students and other related individuals.
* Provides significant leadership, while working with other HH staff, in implementing the move-in and move-out processes in the residence hall at the beginning and end of each semester, including organizing and executing successful move-in and move-out activities with residents, checking rooms, etc.
* Happiness Monitor: Is aware of student complaints and suggestions, refers them to the appropriate staff person, and follows up afterward.
Talks to RAs and staff to learn about any student complaints.
* Monitors the official Hendrick House Discord site, other social media (Reddit, Facebook, Instagram), and the HH survey for information.
* Posts events to relevant social media sites.
*NON ESSENTIAL DUTIES* * Provides routine reporting for both internal and external needs.
* Establishes and maintains a minimum of 10 office hours for weekday drop-ins for residents.
* Routinely monitors the condition of student rooms, public areas, and patio areas of the residence hall; provides feedback and direction to HH maintenance and housekeeping operations.
* Initiates change and develops and implements new ideas and concepts to improve the quality of life within the residence hall.
* Provides sales and marketing support for all residence hall activities.
*POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:* *Education* Required: Bachelor’s degree in College with coursework in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling or related fields.
*Experience* *Required:* Part-time work experience in conference services, any campus housing environment, student affairs or related field (higher education, counseling, diversity education, social work, etc.
).
Must be able to effectively communicate in both oral and written English.
*Preferred: *Work in residential life, university housing or conferences service, supervisory skills, successful community building strategies, conflict mediation skills, interpersonal skills, sound decision-making and evaluative skills.
*Environmental Demands: *This position requires a successful candidate to “live-in” an assigned residential unit within HH.
An individual be able to respond to duty-related crisis calls within and around the residence hall where there are many students and sometimes high-demand situations.
There is a general schedule which requires presence in the building most nights and weekends unless pre-approved.
*Physical Requirements: *This position requires the ability to multi-task and move around campus effectively in a busy and unpredictable environment.
