*Job Title:* Transportation Director/Mechanic Technician
*Reports to: *Superintendent
*Classification:* Non-Certified Educational Support Personnel
*Exempt/Non-Exempt Status:* Exempt
*Licenses/Certificates Required:* High School diploma or equivalent, demonstrated ability, aptitude and competence for position.
Hold a valid Illinois Driver’s license and a valid CDL Class B motor vehicle license.
*Evaluation Cycle:* Annually *Purpose of the Job:* To establish programs and policies surrounding bus service, setting quality standards for bus drivers and setting system-wide leadership goals for the school district’s transportation service.
Provide maintenance and repair of the transportation fleet.
*Duties:* 1.
Plans routes and schedules buses, modifies routes as necessary 2.
Assigns, supervises and inspects the work of the school bus drivers 3.
Work with the athletic director and administrative assistants to schedule buses for extra-curricular activities 4.
Check buses for mechanical defects and perform repairs as necessary.
5.
Monitors the safe operation of buses 6.
Monitors the efficient use of the buses 7.
Supervises the department’s safety program objectives 8.
Dispatches buses in response to special requests 9.
Files accident reports as necessary 10.
Maintains safety standards in conformance with state and federal insurance regulations 11.
Recruits and trains school bus drivers 12.
Ensures that all drivers meet federal and state licensing laws and regulations 13.
Ensures that drivers are drug and alcohol tested when required by federal, state, and district laws or policies 14.
Oversees and collaborates with internal and external personnel (e.
g.
other administrators, public agencies, community members, contractors, construction managers, architects, vendors) for the purpose of maintaining services and programs; 15.
Assesses incidents, complaints, etc.
for the purpose of resolving or recommending a solution to the situation; 16.
Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions; 17.
Performs personnel functions (e.
g.
interviewing, evaluating, supervising, counseling, disciplining, directing, training, etc.
) for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing and achieving objectives within budget; 18.
Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.
g.
correspondence, memos, reports, policy/procedures, budget, etc.
) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information; 19.
Recommends new hires, promotions and terminations for the purpose of maintaining staffing needs and productivity of the workforce; 20.
Supervises bus drivers and monitors Updated October 2023 21.
Be aware of anything that might present a danger to students and staff.
Take necessary safety precautions to provide safe transportation for students 22.
Reports signs of abuse or maintenance issues to the supervisor.
