Summary
The Prairie Farm Director oversees the daily operation and maintenance of the Champaign Park District’s interactive farm.
Qualifications
Minimum 18 years of age
Minimum two (2) years of experience working with livestock.
Supervisory experience preferred
Working knowledge of agriculture
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Supervision
The Prairie Farm Director reports directly to the Program Manager.
The Prairie Farm Director supervises part-time and seasonal staff.
Classification
Non-Exempt, hourly
Seasonal (not to exceed six (6) month)
Season is May – September
Training – Can be obtained through the Champaign Park District
First Aid, AED, and CPR Certification
Heads Up Concussion training
Mandated reporter training
Harassment prevention training
Bloodborne pathogen training
Recreation software system training
Drivers training and test
Facility training
Essential Functions
Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of oneself, the public, fellow employees.
Demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in all interactions, including maintaining strict confidentiality regarding staff information, communications from supervisors, and conversations with parents or patrons.
Uphold the Park District’s policies and standards for data privacy and confidentiality at all time
Lead the strategic planning and execution of all programs at Prairie Farm.
Create a comprehensive schedule for the proper care and maintenance of animals.
Implement protocols to monitor and ensure the health and well-being of all animals.
Provide leadership, training, and supervision to program leaders and volunteers.
Foster positive relationships with participants and their caregivers, ensuring a welcoming environment.
Procure and manage program supplies efficiently and cost-effectively.
Optimize the use of resources provided by the Champaign Park District.
Manage and oversee the budget, tracking expenses and revenue.
Deliver comprehensive written evaluations of programs for continuous improvement.
Enforce cleanliness standards to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.
Implement safety protocols to create a secure environment for all.
Foster open communication with both superiors and subordinates.
Keep detailed records, including incident/accident reports, staff attendance, and sign-out sheets.
Efficiently manage work schedules and payroll processes on a weekly basis.
Actively participate in all necessary meetings.
Keep the supervisor informed on farm needs, repairs, program updates, and staffing issues.
Play an active role in leading instructional programs.
Collaborate on special projects to enhance the farm's offerings.
Contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the farmhouse and grounds.
Efficiently organize, plan, and implement various projects within specified deadlines.
Address conflicts and problems with staff, participants, volunteers, partners, and sponsors in a professional and mission-aligned manner.
Demonstrate self-initiative and the ability to work independently.
Provide guidance and leadership to a young and inexperienced workforce.
Ensure proper opening and closing procedures for the farm facility.

Physical Considerations
Outdoors in hot, humid, sunny weather
Must be able to lift supplies and equipment (approximately up to 50 pounds) when needed
Environmental Considerations
Exposed to various odors and sounds associated with farm activities
May be exposed to many weather conditions including rain, wind, extreme heat, etc.
