Visiting Assistant Professor in Human Geography

The Department of Geography & Geographic Information Science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Human Geography with scholarly interests in one or more of the following: human-environment relationships, urban geography, and political geography.
The teaching load will be two in-person courses per semester, with some courses repeated between fall and spring.
Introductory courses to be taught may include Social and Cultural Geography, Geographies of Globalization, Cities of the World, and Geographies of Global Conflict.
This position will support our rapidly-growing major in Geography & GIS as well as our General Education offerings.
This is a non-tenure-track, full time, one-year appointment, with the possibility of extension for a second year, contingent on availability of funding, strong enrollments, and strong performance reviews.
The anticipated start date is August 16, 2024; the salary is commensurate with qualifications.
Successful candidates are expected to teach effectively at the undergraduate level and pursue an active and independent research program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have completed all requirements of a Ph.
D.
in geography or a related field by the time of appointment.
Candidates with a Ph.
D.
in hand, an active research agenda, and evidence of teaching experience can be considered as a Visiting Assistant Professor.
The successful candidate needs to show evidence of effective interpersonal skills and teaching excellence.
A demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for underrepresented students through teaching and mentoring is desired.
