Visiting Assistant Professor in Geographic Information Science

The Department of Geography & Geographic Information Science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Geographic Information Science with scholarly interests in one or more of the following: GeoAI, CyberGIS, and space-time analytics.
The teaching load will be two courses per semester, with the possibility of a course reduction in exchange for developing a new course.
Potential courses include Spatial Analysis, Programming for GIS, and new courses in Geospatial Databases and/or GeoAI.
This position will support our undergraduate degree in Computer Science + Geography & GIS, as well as our Professional Science Master’s in GIS and our online graduate programs in CyberGIS & Geospatial Data Science.
This is a non-tenure-track, full time, one-year appointment, with the possibility of extension for a second year, contingent on availability of funding, strong enrollments, and strong performance reviews.
The anticipated start date is August 16, 2024; the salary is commensurate with qualifications.
Successful candidates are expected to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and pursue an active and independent research program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must have completed all requirements of a Ph.
D.
in geography, geographic information science, or a related field by the time of appointment.
Candidates with a Ph.
D.
in hand, an active research agenda, and evidence of teaching experience can be considered as a Visiting Assistant Professor.
The successful candidate needs to show evidence of effective interpersonal skills and teaching excellence.
A demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for underrepresented students through teaching and mentoring is desired.
