Community Coordinator for Library Initiatives Big Ten Academic Alliance The Big Ten Academic Alliance, the consortium of the Big Ten universities, has an opening for a community coordinator.
The Community Coordinator for Library Initiatives provides logistical and practical support for strategic initiatives, programs, and related communications that advance the goals of the BIG Collection.
Under the direction of the Assistant Director for the Library Initiatives Team, the Community Coordinator will coordinate, implement, and manage logistics for specific initiatives, events, and programs.
This position is designed with flexibility in the terms of employment location.
Actual terms of employment will be negotiated with the finalist candidates, but could include such things as being located at our headquarters in Champaign, IL.

The Library Initiatives team works to create capacities for our member libraries.
The team coordinates, facilitates, moderates, and hosts with a focus on connecting, convening, leading, planning, communicating, and celebrating.
Working to build and maintain a “center” that can hold the highest ideals of collective action and interdependence, the Library Initiatives team develops goals and milestones to support the advancement of the BIG Collection.
Duties & Responsibilities: Community Engagement and Network Support Coordinate, manage, and administer programs and projects developed to meet the objectives of the BIG Collection initiative.
Foster engagement of BTAA library communities with the BIG Collection.
Coordinate assessment efforts for BIG Collection projects and initiatives, creating mid-stream and final reports as needed.
Plan programming and hosting events related to the BIG Collection.
Communicate programmatic and logistical information to internal and external partners.
Work collaboratively with several community groups serving as liasion creating meeting agendas and attending monthly meetings.
Coordinate and implement adoption, training, and troubleshooting support for community-related communication tools, documentation management and archiving platforms.
Evaluate and implement community knowledge management systems, including goals setting, timeline tracking, and discussion platforms.
Communication Attend meetings, contribute to discussions, and assist with decisions to advance the work of the Library Initiatives team and the goals of the BIG Collection.
Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director and Library Initiatives team on work plan goals.
Track goals, objectives, and accomplishments of the Library Initiatives team.
Communicate effectively, and interact respectfully with BTAA team, stakeholders, and library community members.
Respond to verbal and written inquiries promptly, consulting with collaborators, providing information, and making recommendations.
Proactively identify improvements the Library Initiatives team can make and propose solutions.
Seek out new ideas related to learning, creating a welcoming environment, and customer service for the Library Initiatives team to consider.
Administrative Support Monitor communications across the community network to highlight time sensitive needs and facilitate appropriate responses in coordination with the Assistant Director.
Prepare and distribute unit documentation as needed.
Coordinate event / meeting planning, management, and support.
Provide calendaring support for community meetings and the Assistant Director.
Maintain all library email lists, member lists, and external access for membership groups and committees.
Analyze community membership data and complete reports as needed.
Create and monitor expense budgets, while also ensuring services are rendered and invoices are paid for events and community support activities.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree.
A total of two (2) year (24 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position.
(Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
) Demonstrated experience with software applications, databases, and information technology tools.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated effectiveness with community management or coordination in a distributed context that spans institutions or organizations.
Experience or training in group facilitation using a variety of methods and tools (e.
g.
physical or digital white boarding.
Hands-on experience with technology tools for community management and community facilitation activities such as brainstorming, note-taking, documentation, group management, etc.
Demonstrated experience with project or program management.
Experience in event planning and/or facilitation.
Experience in higher education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Exemplary communication skills and organizational skills.
Understanding of how to collaborate with a diverse group of people and roles.
Comfortable with ambiguity and can break it down as part of a cross-functional team.
Capability to learn from set-backs.
Ability to do occasional overnight travel.
Appointment Information: This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis.
The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search.
Minimum salary for this position is $65,000.
