Driver Sub-Foreperson - Facilities & Services Facilities & Services Job Summary The Driver Sub-Foreperson assists in planning, dispatching, maintaining records of work performed, fields customer inquiries while also assisting in coordinating and supervising the movement and transport of persons, supplies, equipment, and plans for future operations of the shop and acts as a Heavy Driver or Driver as dictated by higher level personnel.
Duties & Responsibilities Performs administrative tasks, such as cost estimates, evaluating operations, recommending equipment acquisitions, inputting scale tickets, tracking work orders, documenting equipment charges, maintaining overtime lists and dispatch records.
Assists the Foreperson in the supervision of Drivers and Heavy Drivers and other assigned staff including recommendations of hiring, training needs, evaluating performances and discipline.
Works with customers, vendors, and stakeholders to perform requested tasks by ensuring they obtain adequate details for pricing, equipment rentals and to make sound decisions to complete the tasks efficiently.
Assign tasks to subordinates and follows up to ensure work is completed properly.
Coordinates work assignments, scheduling, distribution of work and equipment, to include after hour calls and snow removal.
Attend design review meetings and provides requirements and input into service operations for construction projects on campus.
Analyze and coordinate operations and routes to ensure efficiency.
Performs the duties of Drivers and Heavy Drivers as directed by the Foreperson.
Initiates and promotes safe, effective work habits among shop personnel.
Perform related duties as assigned, may perform the duties of other supervisors in their absence.
Additional Physical Demands Environmental Demands: • During emergency conditions, overtime may be required.
• This is both a sedentary and mobile position.
The incumbent must be capable of performing the work of a Driver and Heavy Driver.
• Seasonal weather extremes are faced on occasion.
Exposure to sun, wind, cold, heat, dampness, snow and ice can be expected on these occasions • Work in other than regular hours is required on limited occasions and the individual must be able to vary work hours as the operating needs of the University demand.
Minimum Qualifications 1.
High school diploma or equivalent.
2.
Valid current driver’s license as required by the State of Illinois; and a CDL class B license or higher in accordance with the size of the vehicle to be operated by the incumbent.
3.
Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in moving or transport activities (such as commercial driving, dispatching, garage work, or moving company).
NOTE: All necessary CDL endorsements are based on the vehicle to be operated and when required to operate vehicles capable of transporting 16 or more persons as required by the Illinois Secretary of State.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Supervisory ability and skill in managing people • Knowledge of safety practices associated with moving and transport.
• Ability to use computer software including MS Outlook, Excel, Word and AiM • Knowledge of motor vehicles and auxiliary equipment utilized.
• Ability to learn the buildings, travel, routes and physical layout of the institution and plan work activities accordingly.
• Organizational abilities, including redirecting and mathematical skills.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service Driver Sub-Foreperson position, appointed on a 12-month basis.
The annual salary for the Driver Sub-Foreperson classification is $91,222.
