Job Summary Responsible for planning, filming, and editing creative video content across multiple mediums for a variety of initiatives.
Produce compelling content from concept to finished product, delivering a polished, final product for use on a variety of digital, social, broadcast and print platforms.
Duties & Responsibilities Contributes ideas and assists or leads in planning, scripts/outlines, scouts locations and negotiates clearances, shoots, and edits captured video and audio recordings to tell concise, visually compelling stories; records events, interviews and stories using camera, lighting, and audio equipment.
Scouts, shoots, and edits digital photos to tell the Family and Consumer Sciences story in images for use on the web, in print, in ads, and on social media that meets digital accessibility requirements.
Visualizes and creates motion graphics and digital designs for social media, web, and print use.
Research emerging trends in video production as it relates to marketing and pursues professional certifications applicable to the position.
Research and acquire archival footage and photographs for use in productions telling the Family and Consumer Sciences story.
Assist in determining equipment and staff needed, project timelines and deadlines, and adhering to budget restrictions.
Assist with in-venue production on broadcast and/or web-based platforms, as required.
Collaborates with internal and external units to provide services and ensure consistency with university brand; works closely with Marketing and Communications and other content creators on strategic photo and video projects.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Additional Physical Demands To perform the functions of this position, the employee will be required to perform work both within an office and outside in the communities that are served and must have the capability to travel from one location to the other in a timely fashion.
Employee is responsible for securing personal transportation.
A valid driver’s license is preferred.
Some work will be required during evenings and/or weekends.
When working, the employee may be exposed to a variety of environmental factors to include, but not limited to, hot or cold weather, exposure to noise and allergens, and uneven ground.
In performing the functions of this position, the employee may be subjected to various mental and physical demands as well to include, but not limited to, independently traveling to and performing work at different locations, ability to move, transfer and/or transport items that may occasionally weigh up to forty (40) pounds and frequently weigh up to twenty (20) pounds, and twisting, pushing and pulling movements.

5-hours a day which supports the goals of the Family Consumer Sciences program area at University of Illinois Extension.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in film/video production, cinematography, radio and television, documentary film production, photojournalism, communications, graphic design, or a closely related field to the position.
One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in areas including non-linear video editing, motion graphics, video lighting and composition, camera operation, graphic design, audio recording, video production, or a closely related professional area.
Demonstrated experience with offsite location video shoots.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of trends in the industry, and techniques and principles of camera operations, staging, lighting, audio recording and formatting of studio and location video shoots.
Knowledge of various video production and editing software programs.
Knowledge of social media platforms and the latest trends and best practices for multimedia applications.
Knowledge of digital accessibility requirements.
Skill in producing high-quality video content for various outlets, copywriting, and editing.
Skills in verbal and written communication.
Skills in time management, organizing work assignments, and responding quickly and effectively to challenges.
Ability to lead and coordinate projects.
Ability to produce and create exciting audio-visual content appropriate for diverse audiences.
Ability to multitask and work in a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.
Ability to communicate and work in a decentralized team environment.
Ability to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing tasks (attention to detail).
Ability to travel within Illinois to capture video and audio recordings or supporting materials.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5014 - Cinematographer/Creative Video Producer position, appointed on a 12-month basis.
The expected start date is as soon as possible.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
The salary range for this position starts at $54,990.
