Architect Intern - Facilities and Services Engineer Services Job Summary Under the supervision and responsibility of licensed architects and engineers, provide architectural services, including developing design documents, document review, attending meetings, and performing field visits as needed to execute construction and maintenance projects for the University.
Under the supervision and responsibility of licensed architects and engineers, produce and deliver architectural drawings, opinions, reviews, technical decisions, recommendations, and documentation to F&S departments, campus, and other University units.
Confirm conformance with applicable codes and University Facilities Standards to provide safe, reliable, comfortable, productive, sustainable, and cost-effective facilities which support the Mission of the University.
PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION: Under the supervision and responsibility of licensed architects and engineers, provide architectural services, including developing design documents, document review, attending meetings, and performing field visits as needed to execute construction and maintenance projects for the University.
Under the supervision and responsibility of licensed architects and engineers, produce and deliver architectural drawings, opinions, reviews, technical decisions, recommendations, and documentation to F&S departments, campus, and other University units.
Confirm conformance with applicable codes and University Facilities Standards to provide safe, reliable, comfortable, productive, sustainable, and cost-effective facilities which support the Mission of the University.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide all of the following under the supervision and responsibility of licensed architects and engineers: PROJECT DESIGN AND REVIEW Collaborate to prepare and coordinate construction documents for renovation of existing spaces and build-out of new shell spaces for disciplines including architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation and control systems.
Utilize AutoCAD and Autodesk products to produce documents including architectural, structural, mechanical, environmental controls, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems from engineer’s and architect’s sketches and related MSWORD and EXCEL files.
Utilize software and information resources available to the F&S Division.
This includes the Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.
), AutoCAD, AiM, the my.
fs.
illinois.
edu Portal, SharePoint, and internet offerings.
Utilize the internet, intranet and facility information to seek work related information in preparation of drawings and proper sizing of equipment, systems and 3D models.
Visit locations on campus to take measurements of existing buildings or structures, piping and mechanical and electrical equipment in order to prepare drawings for modification of such equipment or remodeling of room layouts.
Prepare designs, system layouts, and component sizing for review by F&S Engineers and Architects.
Update existing drawings to comply with information supplied by authorized sources.
Utilize AutoCAD, Autodesk Building Systems and REVIT standards and templates.
Research project specific existing documentation and compile for F&S Engineers and Architects.
Research and implement code requirements for projects.
Coordinate architectural design work with other disciplines including architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and building automation and control systems.
Prepare project submittals for distribution to client, F&S Construction Services, and F&S Facility Information Resources.
Prepare and present reports, programs, displays, or drawings to management or staff as assigned.
Utilize methods of quality assurance to backcheck work and mitigate design and construction conflicts.
Attend meetings as the Design Services representative on assigned projects through completion of warranty phase.
PROJECT PLANNING Attend preliminary client meetings and provide project program analysis to determine detailed scope, schedule, and budget for proposed repair, renovation, remodel, replacement, or new work as assigned.
Establish, update, and meet project schedules.
Note significant milestones and deadlines, potential construction conflicts, sequencing and phasing concerns and building/site accessibility.
Assist in the estimation of hours and duration required for tasks of self, technicians, and others involved in development of design, construction administration and project close-out.
Manage work assignments, establish project priorities, and resolve design issues.
Confer with Management Architect and Engineer and Associate Director regarding resource needs and schedules.
Develop weekly forecast of planned work and provide periodic project status reports.
Update the design teammates and client routinely and upon changes in scope, schedule, budget, or status.
CONTINUING EDUCATION Attend continuing education training, and seek resources to aid in obtaining the knowledge required on the Architecture Licensing Exam.
Provide assessment of new technologies, equipment and systems for related architecture to evaluate applicability to our projects and University Facilities Standards.
Maintain knowledge in current building codes, energy codes, life safety code, University Facilities Standards, State and Federal regulations needed to adequately meet the needs of the Engineering Services Department.
SUPPORT TO OTHER UNITS Provide technical architectural design consultation and support to other Facilities & Services units as well as campus units.
Provide technical support to Commissioning and Inspection and Construction Services units including shop drawing review, codes & standards interpretations, and answering design questions.
CAMPUS COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS Participate in the QBS process for the selection of Professional Service Consultants as assigned.
Participate in focus groups, F&S and campus committees, and initiatives as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED Review, provide feedback, and assist in the updating of the University Facilities Standards.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, faculty, staff, administration, professional consultants, and contractors.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications 1.
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Architecture or related field from an accredited institution.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Autodesk products.
2.
Moderate knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
3.
Moderate knowledge of Adobe or Bluebeam products.
4.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis.
The expected start date is as soon as possible after 04/29/2024.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
