Human Resource Generalist/ Senior Human Resource Generalist School of Molecular & Cellular Biology University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign The School of Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position of Human Resource Generalist/ Senior Human Resource Generalist.
The School of MCB acts as the service unit for five departments, providing common services such as student advising, research service facilities, business office services, information technology (IT), human resources (HR), and the Life Sciences Storeroom.
Job Summary The Human Resource Generalist (HRG) will execute the human resource activities for the School of Molecular & Cellular Biology (SMCB) that support the principles, values, and mission of the School by performing related duties in support of faculty and administration.
The Senior Human Resource Generalist serves as the primary Human Resources Front End processor for the School of Molecular & Cellular Biology; facilitates appointment transaction services and assist with searches for various academic positions.
This position serves as a resource for school faculty and staff on campus/college/school policies and procedures, as they relate to Human Resources and is responsible for administrative duties that require direct contact with staff, unit managers, Illinois Human Resources (IHR), University Payroll and Benefits Office (UPB) and International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS).
Duties & Responsibilities Employment Processes (Hiring, onboarding, separating) Perform as HR Resource for post docs, visiting scholars, academic hourlies, extra help, and retiree rehires, providing end-to-end assistance for newly hired employees, current employees and separating employees, for all areas of personnel and payroll.
Issuance and approval of offer letters for student hourly, graduate assistants and extra help; work within guidelines established by the appropriate collective bargaining agreement(s), following federal and state laws, along with campus and college policies and procedures.
Assist the Assistant Director for Human Resources with searches for Academic Professionals, Civil Service staff, and prepare search docs.
Sr HR Generalist- and serve as the HR representative for proper search procedures.
Possess working knowledge of I-9 Tracker.
Serve as backup I-9 manager for the School HR office.
Sr HR Generalist- Facilitate retiree rehire requests and procedures from start to finish, including but not limited to, position development and approvals, and acting as the point of contact for the retiree on the submission of required forms.
Employee Record Management Serve as primary for internal appointment tracking systems, verifying accuracy of appointments.
Serve as the primary processor for both Civil Service hourly and non-Civil Service hourly bi-weekly payroll.
Maintain comprehensive files, ensuring personnel and supporting documents are scanned and saved appropriately, with discretion of confidential matters and documents.
Advise, coordinate, and process appropriate visas for all international faculty and academic visitors.
This involves knowledge of University and Immigration policies and procedures, communication with incoming and currently, employees, preparation of visa and Permanent Residency applications, labor certification, and record-keeping regarding employees' eligibility to continue to work.
Communicate with scholars, faculty, employees, and International Student and Scholar Services to ensure correct procedures are followed.
Sr HR Generalist- Handle corrective measures for appointment processing, HR Front End changes, pay adjustments, overpayments and earnings transfers.
Sr HR Generalist- Provide HR leadership and guidance to faculty, graduate students and hourly employees as well as the supervisors and School leadership.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities Assist with Service in Excess of 100% forms, where needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Sr HR Generalist- Represent the School of Molecular & Cellular Biology and HR Team at various college and campus meetings.
Participate in the analysis, design, and implementation of HR Standard Operating Procedures.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration or a field closely related to the position.
Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties.
Senior HR Generalist: Three (3) years of work experience performing professional level human resources.
Preferred Qualifications Minimum of two years (Sr HR Generalist- 3 years) of progressive work experience that demonstrates strong ability to research, interpret and make recommendations based on HR policy.
Experience working in a union environment and interpreting contract language.
Experience with common computer applications and demonstrated ability to learn new programs.
Experience providing human resources support and coordination at the University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign.
Experience in documentation, training, search and hire practices, visa processing, and/or appointments processing.
Project management training and/or experience working on HR information systems projects.
Proven track (Sr HR Generalist- Demonstrated effective) record of customer service to diverse clients.
Results oriented with strong organizational, attention to detail, and time management skills.
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to interact with a broad array of internal and external constituents, and the ability to concurrently manage multiple complex tasks.
Awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic differences, commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Ability to discern the level of inquiry, priority or issue for escalation, or to seek guidance for clarification or assistance.
Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5020 - Human Resource Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis.
The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date.
The starting salary for this position is $48,000.
Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints.
