Front-End Developer - Graduate College The Graduate College at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is now accepting applications for a Front-End Developer.
Part of the Communications, IT and Data team within the Graduate College, this position is responsible for managing technical aspects of the Graduate College website and web-based applications that serve 20,000+ graduate students and administrative staff in graduate programs across campus.
Duties & Responsibilities: Serve as primary point of contact for technical aspects of management of Drupal website, including development, broken links reports, site analytics, user training for content providers.
Lead website strategy and production in collaboration with Assistant Dean for Communications and Strategic Planning.
Assess, strategize, develop, and maintain existing web-based applications to meet user needs.
Manage web development projects, including integration of campus branding and web standards.
Maintains and supports assigned systems with documented testing and development of procedures to ensure minimal downtime and loss of productivity and service.
Evaluates and supplement vendor-supplied documentation for third-party software.
Employ best-practices in the development of front-end code that is accessible and usable to audiences across many devices.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with campus web developer community and serve as the technical representative for the Graduate College.
Assure that customers, staff, students, etc.
, are provided with appropriate IT use and security policies upon the allocation of institution/department IT equipment such as computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile phones, etc.
Other responsibilities may be assigned.
Required Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent.
Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories: College coursework that includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months) Associate Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months) 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months) Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months) Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related fields.
Demonstrated experience creating web-based applications.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, web development or related field.
Two years of experience developing websites, themes, and templates.
Experience creating websites for diverse audiences.
Broad, general knowledge of higher education and an understanding of the university academic and administrative structure.
Experience creating and editing websites using University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign templates and best practices.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
Professionalism and ability to interact with staff of all levels and technical knowledge.
Excellent web development skills, including knowledge HTML, CSS, Drupal and .
NET.
Proficient understanding of cross-browser compatibility issues.
Understanding of best practices for accessible and responsive web design in digital environments.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team-based, dynamic environment that involves diverse stakeholders.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Detail-oriented and highly organized.
Exceptional time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Ability to be self-motivated, work independently, exercise good judgement and prioritize tasks.
Appointment Information: This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis.
The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search.
Minimum salary for this position is $55,000.
