University of Illinois Extension is based in the College of ACES and works with all colleges and units of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Job Summary Provide innovative leadership and direction to implement and deliver club delivery systems for Illinois 4-H that empower staff, volunteers, and young people.
This person will also provide leadership for identifying, designing, developing, implementing, and providing program support to 4-H clubs across all 102 counties in the state.
Duties and Responsibilities Club Management Oversee the total customer experience for 4-H club systems utilized by Illinois 4-H program participants, volunteers, and county-based staff.
Assist customers who have questions or need additional support through phone, email and Microsoft Team communication.
Provide leadership for updating the IL 4-H Policy Handbook in coordination with the State 4-H Senior Project Lead of Programs and Positive Youth Development and 4-H Director.
Provide leadership for the annual update of club management forms and resources.
Provide leadership for the state on how to charter and manage 4-H Clubs, including multi-project, special interest and Cloverbud clubs.
Provide training for county-based 4-H staff on club management best practices, resources and policies.
Oversee club charter and re-charter process.
Collaborate with State 4-H program staff team to design and distribute new club resource materials.
Promote and support use of available resources to IL 4-H staff, volunteers, and academics to foster diversity and inclusion in the 4-H Clubs.
Support State 4-H Senior Program Lead with implementing processes related to rescinding charters from clubs that do not comply with club policies.
Facilitate and update needs assessment for 4-H club supports as informed by feedback from 4-H staff, volunteers, youth and families.
State Awards 4-H Recognition and Awards Provide leadership for the management, update and delivery of the State 4-H Awards program.
Oversee the total customer experience for 4-H recognition and awards offered to Illinois 4-H program participants, volunteers and county-based staff.
Lead effort to review and adapt award applications, selection criteria, and procedures to be equitably accessible and all-inclusive of 4-H participation modes.
Integrate technology to the awards application and selection process.
Provide training to county-based 4-H staff, volunteers and youth on the IL 4-H awards program.
Lead effort for counties to order recognition items related to county-based award categories, including Bronze, Silver and Gold Experience awards.
Provide leadership for review of Diamond and Emerald Experience award applications – including customer service support to county-based staff and youth as needed to clarify award criteria and process.
Lead and coordinate evaluation of State (Excel) Scholarship Awards Facilitate the collection of forms, and organize a team of judges, who will each be responsible for certain sections.
Collate scores and judge’s comments.
Work with the State 4-H Senior Program Lead of Programs and Positive Youth Development to devise a "blind judging" system.
Communicate with applicants (or their 4-H county staff) who have been chosen to move on to the next stage of the process.
Provide leadership for the annual State 4-H Awards banquet – coordinating with the State 4-H Office Admin Team on logistics and State 4-H Marketing and Communications Manager on promotional materials and other state staff as needed.
4-H Culminating Events Provide leadership for annual update of the State 4-H General Project Showbook – includes facilitation of State 4-H Superintendents to update exhibit opportunities, exhibit requirements, delegate quotas and judging scoresheets.
Provide training for county-based staff on the annual 4-H Showbook template for use in county-based exhibit opportunities and culminating events.
Lead effort to recruit volunteers (judges, project assistants, etc.
) to support the annual State 4-H General Project Show at State Fair in Springfield.
Provide onsite support for culminating pathway events, including State Fair, Illini Summer Academies and State 4-H Recognition of Excellence Awards Banquet.
Other Responsibilities Perform other duties that contribute to the mission of University of Illinois Extension as assigned.

Assist staff with data collection for affirmative action, gender, and targeted reports.
Additional Physical Demands To perform the functions of this position, the employee will be required to perform work both within an office and outside in the communities that are served, and must have the capability to travel from one location to the other in a timely fashion.
Employee is responsible for securing personal transportation.
A valid driver’s license is preferred.
Some work will be required during evenings and/or weekends.
When working, the employee may be exposed to a variety of environmental factors to include, but not limited to, hot or cold weather, exposure to noise and allergens, and uneven ground.
In performing the functions of this position, the employee may be subjected to various mental and physical demands as well to include, but not limited to, independently traveling to and performing work at different locations, lifting and moving items that may occasionally weigh up to forty (40) pounds and frequently weigh up to twenty (20) pounds, and twisting, pushing and pulling movements.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree.
Two years in education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position.
Demonstrated experience working with youth organizations and or programming.
Demonstrated training and customer service experience (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
) Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree.
Two years in education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position.
Demonstrated experience working with youth organizations and or programming.
Demonstrated training and customer service experience (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated customer service in working with diverse clients on the phone, responding to email requests, and working with office colleagues in a team setting.
Ability to utilize electronic and online technologies.
Ability to travel to limited number of events across the year.
Understanding of different ethnic and socioeconomic audiences and a commitment to developing tools and delivering inclusive programmatic supports.
Demonstrated communication skills (creation of electronic and print publications, presentations, web and social media) are preferred.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis.
The expected start date is as soon as possible.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
