Position Summary
The cafeteria associate/food prep cook works under the supervision of the head cook/chef, and/or the director of nutrition and wellness services.
Must have skills in food preparation, production control, inventory control, kitchen safety, sanitation, equipment use and cleaning/sanitizing, food safety, menus and therapeutic diets, facility policies and procedures related to the food service department, cashier, maintaining the needs of Central Avenue Grill, and must work well under the direction of a supervisor or director.
Position Status
This is a full-time, non-exempt position.
The Cafeteria Associate/ Food Prep Cook reports to the Director of Nutrition and Wellness.
Qualifications
Competencies
Must possess a food handler’s permit as applicable
Preferably possesses a high school diploma
Must have experience and knowledge in food service, basic nutrition, cooking, therapeutic and consistency alter diets.
Working knowledge of kitchen utensils and food preparation equipment
A strong work ethic and ability
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to make decisions and solve problems
Ability to prioritize and organize work
Ability to remain relaxed and calm under stress
Ability to relate to persons of various economic levels and cultures
Ability to cooperate with supervisor, department heads and other staff
Computer skills (for facility work, communications via email, cashier and running reports)
Physical Requirements
The ability to endure physical labor for extended periods of time in all temperature conditions.
The ability to endure strenuous activity including: walking, standing, bending, reaching, pulling and squatting.
The ability to lift 40 – 50 pounds.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Thoroughly cleans equipment and work area in accordance with company policies and procedures and applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations.
Assists in the preparation and serving of food as directed.
Prepares and distributes snacks and nourishments to patients as directed.
Ensures that food preparation follows prescribed menus and that patients’ likes and dislikes are honored when possible.
Performs duties in a timely fashion, and within the prescribed sequences and schedules.
Ensures that safety precautions and infection control policies and procedures are followed during the daily work assignments.
Completes mandatory training and/ or routine training per facility policy such as HIPPA, abuse/resident’s rights, dementia, ethics and emergency preparedness.
Ensures proper stocking (food items, paper goods and condiments), food temperatures, and cleanliness of Central Ave Grill to ensure operations are maintained per management expectations
Collects payments for food items from students and staff for the purpose of completing transactions and/or securing funds for reimbursement of costs.
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
