*POSITION:* Kitchen Assistant
*JOB CLASSIFICATION:* Full-time (non-exempt)
*BASIC FUNCTION:* The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for providing nutritious meals in sufficient quantity for individuals served by the agency and for cleanliness of the kitchen.
*IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:* Kitchen Manager
*SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIRED DUTIES:*
1.
Preparation and serving meals in sufficient quantities for each day’s Senior Center, Head Start, and contracted menus, timing preparation to meet service schedules.
2.
Temporary coverage of duties performed by Sous Chef during their absence.
3.
Practice sanitation in the handling and storage of all foods at designated location.
4.
Ensure all opened foods are properly wrapped, labeled and stored to extend shelf life.
5.
Use standardized recipes based on nutrition guidelines and standard portion control, while eliminating waste and leftovers.
6.
Notify the Kitchen Manager of food/supply/equipment needs.
7.
Check in all food/supply deliveries to ensure order accuracy.
Notify Kitchen Manager of any discrepancies on order invoice.
8.
Rotate the food/supplies stored allowing for older items to be used first.
This applies to all dry, cold and frozen storage areas.
9.
Implement an effective daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedule for the kitchen ensuring all kitchen work surfaces and sink areas are cleaned each morning with a sanitizing solution of soap and bleach and daily cleaning of the inside of the refrigerator, can opener, canned goods, etc.
, and weekly cleaning of vents are accomplished.
Floor should also be swept daily to remove any floor debris.

This position will also fulfill any and all duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager.
*TRAINING:* The Kitchen Assistant is eligible for any special training made available to any other staff members.
*EVALUATION:* The Kitchen Assistant will be evaluated annually by the Kitchen Manager.
*QUALIFICATIONS:*
* *MUST *have Food Service Sanitation Certification (to be renewed prior to expiration).
* One-year previous experience in large quantity food preparation and service.
* Ability to read, write, make simple calculations, and follow oral and written directions.
* Thoroughly familiar with food and preparation methods.
* Ability to work under the supervision of the Kitchen Manager.
* Must have good personal hygiene.
* Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
* Willingness to increase work skills and participate in training.
* Ability to pass DCFS background check for authorization to work in a childcare setting.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.
20 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
