The After School Enrichment Specialist: Cooking & Nutrition provides nutrition-based programming to youth during DMBGC’s afterschool and school break programming times.
Utilizing BGCA Healthy Habits curriculum, the Enrichment Specialist: Cooking and Nutrition supports youth in the exploration and development of healthy habits to support positive lifestyles and outcomes.
This is a part-time, temporary, hourly position through June 2024.
Responsibilities
Works with the Programming Coordinator and community partners to develop and implement nutrition programming that supports the outcomes of the Game On! program
Identifies and incorporates youth needs, interests, and feedback to ensure that programming is innovative, engaging, and responsive to the needs of participating youth
Leverages Healthy Habits curriculum from Boys & Girls Clubs of America to educate and empower youth in creating routines and making decisions that support a healthy lifestyle
Identifies existing resources to support food insecure families, provides connections to services and programs, and offers guidance on accessing nutritious food options and addressing food-related challenges
Supports the DMBGC Teen Meal Program by developing menus, providing resources and training on safe food handling, and implementing food ordering or purchasing procedures
Connects nutrition programming to other Game On! programs, highlighting the importance of nutrition in goals and careers in sports, e-sports, and recreation
Supports participating youth with goal planning and career interest mapping as it relates to the program and identifies additional areas of interest and exploration as appropriate
Ensures that programming environment fosters a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment by emphasizing healthy bodies and minds, body positivity, and positive peer relationships
Stays up-to-date on nutrition trends and challenges for youth populations
Requirements
Education or practical experience in nutrition, dietetics, public health, or a closely-related field
Demonstrated experience in nutrition education or program design
Experience providing services and resources to diverse and/or underserved populations
Ability to articulate the importance of nutrition in physical and mental health and career development and advancement
Previous experience in a youth development organization or program
Strong group management and communication skills
Adaptability and flexibility to adjust programming, strategies, and initiatives based on youth participant feedback, best practices, and industry trends
