This position is seasonal (January 2024 – May 2024.

GENERAL FUNCTION Assistant will be responsible for assisting Director and Coordinators in carrying out youth programs including but not limited to after school programs, schools’ days out programs, and spring break camps.
Prime responsibilities include supervision of program participants, carrying out program activities, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
KNOW-HOW Applicant must possess a minimum of 1-year experience supervising children ranging from 5 to 12 years of age.
Must become knowledgeable of the YMCA philosophy and objectives.
Must have good human relations skills as well as good verbal communications skills.
Must be able to convey thoughts, concerns and instructions in a clear and direct manner to parents and participants.
Applicant must be at least 16 years of age.
CPR/AED certification is required or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and stoop, kneel or crouch while performing duties.
The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in carrying out programs in accordance with the policies and the philosophy of the YMCA.
Adhere to the rules and policies of the Stephens Family YMCA, included but not limited to child abuse prevention polices.
Must maintain and create weekly schedules for youth activities.
Will provide supervision that keeps participants engaged in activities.
Coordinate age appropriate games and activities and events that will cater to the population served.
Will create a safe environment by following guidelines and immediately addressing anything that possesses a safety risk to participants.
Will report any facility or equipment concerns in writing to your supervisor immediately.
Responsible for the ordered arrangement and appearance of all facilities before, during and after activities.
Works with other staff in maintaining a quantity of supplies, equipment and materials.
Help record and track attendance of participants and volunteers.
Turn these in to the supervisor weekly.
Establish and enforce rules that result in positive behavior and positive social development for participants.
Required to attend all scheduled staff meetings and in-house training.
Assist supervisor with growing all programs attendance and enrollment.
Help supervisor with distribution of promotional and informational materials to potential participants.
Develop good working relationships with program participants, parents, and community members that relate to your program area.
All other duties necessary for a job well done.
