Veterinary Technology Tenure-Track Faculty Application Close Date/Time: Monday, January 15th, at 6PM CT This position is a Full-Time, Tenure-Track, Parkland Academic Employees (PAE) appointment.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
Serves as Faculty and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) for Parkland College's Veterinary Technology Program.
Coordinates acquisition, disposition, care, and use of live animals for the Veterinary Technology Program.
Tenure-Track Faculty teach a full-time load as per the PAE bargaining agreement.
They advise and mentor students and participate in governance of their departments and the college.

Essential Job Functions Teaching Functions: Provide classroom instruction in accordance with the stated philosophy, objectives, and established course outlines of the college and conduct program evaluation.
Perform professional clinical duties in accordance with established policies and procedures of the clinical faculty, the Health Professionals Department, Parkland College, and Illinois state law.
Maintain all professional credentials required to teach in area of discipline; meet essential qualifications to teach lecture and lab in the discipline, including ongoing professional development.
Inform students of course regulations, evaluation procedures, and other information pertinent to the course; prepare a course syllabus for each course and post with other course information on college’s Learning Management System (LMS) by date set by the College.
Format test and quizzes; obtain questions from lecturing faculty; administer test and answer questions.
Maintain regular office hours to ensure availability for student consultation; provide assistance to students in a timely manner.
Participate in department and college-wide shared governance, including Parkland College Association (PCA) Senate, its committees, administrative committees, and accreditation committees.
Is available for student advising/mentoring.
Participate in the instruction of other classes if needed and availability allows.
Maintain accurate scholastic records of students; submit required reports on student progress according to published deadlines.
Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Functions: Committee member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use committee; prepare and review SOPs, procedures and protocols specific to the Animal Welfare Act.
Prepare and maintain all USDA paperwork for acquisition and disposition of all live animals used for the program.
Monitor the inventory and order of controlled substances.
Coordinate care and use of live animals Supervise and coordinate student animal care schedules.
Available for weekend and holiday grading and supervision of animal care; on call in case of emergencies.
Responsible for hiring kennel care workers for animal care on college holidays and any days/times college is closed.
Work closely with advisory and faculty committees to maintain and improve the quality of courses and programs.
Work as liaison between appropriate agencies in the community.
Assist director in program evaluation and accreditation procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD) degree from an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accredited program and licensed as a veterinarian in Illinois, or eligible for licensure within six (6) months of employment.
Knowledge and diversified work experience including three (3) years of private practice experience working in a progressive veterinary team that includes one or more certified veterinary technicians.
Experience working with live animals in a variety of species within the last three (3) years.
Must successfully complete a criminal background check with fingerprinting and drug test.
Maintains all professional credentials required to teach in area of discipline; meet essential qualifications to teach lecture and lab.
Ability to professionally engage in positive working relationships with members of the Parkland College community and members of the public.
Ability to learn the Parkland information system and new programs as technology changes.
