Posting Identification Number 33246 POSITION SUMMARY The Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) Division of Vehicles is seeking to hire an Automotive Mechanic to serve as a Heavy-Duty Diesel Automotive Mechanic.
This position will perform skilled mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance of medium and heavy-duty trucks and off-road equipment for the states fleet and other off-road machinery.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Under direct supervision of the Paris Garage Automotive Shop Supervisor, serves as a traveling mechanic at assigned work site locations.
Inspects and performs major repair such as disassemble and repair engines, reassemble engines, differentials, air and hydraulic brakes, wheel ends, etc.
and maintenance to various systems such as diesel, gasoline, multifuel engines, automatic and standard transmissions, heavy duty drive line systems, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical utility systems and other components requiring service.
Operates diagnostic electronic testing equipment such as ProDemand, Bendix, Cummings Insite, Allison, Navistor NED/DLB, etc.
to discover mechanical problems and to service vehicles equipped with complex electronic ignition and pollution control systems.
Completes shop records such as mechanic time tickets identifying parts used and labor hours for each repair/maintenance procedure performed and submits to supervisor.
Performs basic upkeep and maintenance duties for the work area.
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school, or coursework in vehicle repair and maintenance, or completion of an approved training course.
Requires experience necessary to qualify as a skilled mechanic.
Requires a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class B or higher class of driver’s license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Prefers working knowledge of repairing both diesel and gasoline engines.
Prefers working knowledge of locating and adjusting mechanical feedbacks in motors and equipment and making necessary repairs.
Prefers working knowledge of standard vehicle repair and maintenance practices and techniques, occupational hazards, and applicable safety measures.
Prefers extensive knowledge of all automotive parts and materials used in the maintenance and repair of both vehicles and off-road equipment.
Prefers extensive knowledge in the use of all mechanical hand tools and testing equipment.
Prefers one (1) year of professional experience demonstrating skill in the use of tools and the operation of the machines and equipment employed in motor repair and adjustment.
Prefers one (1) year of professional experience preparing work activity reports.
Prefers one (1) year of professional of welding and performing simple blacksmith operations.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT This position requires the applicant to pass a background check.
Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime.
