Job Summary
This position reports to and functions under the general administrative supervision of the Senior Financial Accounting and Reporting Coordinator within University Accounting Services (UAS), which is a division of University Accounting and Financial Reporting (UAFR) within the Office of the Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Comptroller.
The Financial Accounting and Reporting Analyst performs functions related to Banner bank and fund reconciliations, data analysis, and customer service functions related to University Payroll as well as assist with the development of policies and procedures for assigned areas of responsibility in compliance with specialized university, state, and federal regulations.
Ability to work under pressure is required at times to help ensure operational needs are met.
This position is eligible for a hybrid remote working arrangement.
Duties & Responsibilities Reconcile large and complex payroll reconciliations related to financial activity across the entire University of Illinois System.
Complete various Banner fund and bank reconciliation on a periodic basis and resolve reconciling items.
Serve as a subject matter expert in the area of gross wage and fringe benefit payroll transactions in the general ledger.
Serve as an advisor to units regarding labor redistributions.
Develop and complete reports to meet financial reporting and regulatory requirements, such as annual audit schedules.
Assist with various activities associated with ensuring the integrity of the University of Illinois chart of accounts.
These maintenance activities require a comprehensive understanding of the chart of accounts and functionality of Banner.
Assist university departments with encumbrance issues.
This task involves analyzing the posting of encumbrances and determining the proper method of correction.
Initiate and develop financial queries using database applications such as SQL and Microsoft Access to fulfill analytical review, reconciliation, and reporting requirements.
Assist with the documentation of accounting procedures and business processes relevant to the university setting.
Perform other assigned duties which would be appropriate for a Financial Accounting and Reporting Analyst.
Serve on committees/teams as assigned as a representative of University Accounting and Financial Reporting, such as the UAFR Professional Development Implementation Team.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field AND two (2) years of professional level accounting experience.
OR Possession of current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant, or a valid license to practice Public Accounting (LPA).
OR Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field.
Additional education, training, and/or work experience in an area of specialization inherent to the positionmay be required: Preferred Qualifications Preferred: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and/or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and/or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficient computer skills and advanced knowledge of applicable computer systems.
This would include advanced skills in Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Outlook, and Word.
Ability to produce accurate, detail-oriented work related to financial matters within a higher education setting.
Ability to enforce various applicable policies and regulations while still providing superior customer service.
Ability to use creativity in problem-solving and ability to exercise independent professional judgment and discretion.
Ability to propose ideas that improve and/or maintain the effectiveness of daily financial operations.
Strong verbal and written communications skills to effectively present information and respond to requests for guidance and/or clarification.
Ability to address and resolve challenging accounting issues and strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to meet deadlines.
Knowledge of fund accounting principles and how to apply them in a public university setting within the State of Illinois to ensure compliance with various policies, guidelines, and regulations.
Knowledge of how to navigate within the Banner Finance module.
Knowledge with Microsoft Access, including the ability to edit and run queries.
Appointment Information This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5000 - Accounting Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis.
The expected start date is as soon as possible.
The minimum salary for this position is $55,000 and the salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
We are unable to sponsor an employment VISA or take over sponsorship for an employment VISA for this position now and in the future.
Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States with no VISA sponsorship.
