Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Assistant will perform routine accounting, data entry and clerical functions requiring analysis and individual judgement.
This position will assist a variety of positions within the Business Office, which include Accounts Payable, Payroll Coordinator, Controller, and Vice President of Financial Services.
Filing, preparing reports, and data entry, as requested.
This position will be the first point of contact for visitors of the college Business Office.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
Scans physical documents into the college’s electronic document management system; digitally file (index) scanned documents.
Assist with document retrieval as needed.
Performs a variety of bookkeeping duties.
Records accounting information where the identification is clearly defined.
Performs routine journal entries.
Provides clerical support to the Business Office staff: cross-referencing data, drafting and reviewing correspondence, organizing documents, receiving phone calls and messages and other similar functions.
Assists the Payroll Coordinator with data entry, data changes, entering new employee information, scanning and filing of payroll documents.
Maintains payroll files in and organized and up to date manner.
Use analytical and critical thinking to interpret and respond appropriately to diverse groups of people in various situations.
Provide outstanding customer service skills, including, interpersonal and active listening skills.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Able to work effectively with little guidance.
Promotes a positive and professional image of the college.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent and three years of accounting/bookkeeping experience required.
Customer service and administrative/clerical experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in business or accounting.
Understanding accounting principles preferred.

Must be able to sit and work at a computer for prolonged periods of time.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Typical work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.
m.
to 5:00 p.
m.
There may be irregular hours including weekend and/or evening hours.
Summer hours may vary.
This position may be eligible for the Flexible Work Arrangement plan after the 120-day probationary period has been successfully completed.
TRAVEL
None required.
Salary Pay Grade: N-8: Minimum Starting $18.
