Job Summary:
The Collections Manager oversees and supervises the work of the Collections staff and manages the Library’s ordering, cataloging, and materials processing/handling functions.
In addition, this person is the liaison with the Library’s main materials vendors and serves as the primary contact for the Library’s integrated library system.
Exemplifies the characteristics of a collaborative, innovative, and resilient work culture and models the appropriate behavior to create and maintain this work culture.
The Collections Manager reports to an Associate Director.
The Ideal Candidate:
Substantial knowledge of public library principles and practices, including management techniques, information services techniques, collection development, technology applications, cataloging, and classification.
Demonstrates a strong commitment to excellent public service; works with others in a consistently approachable, cooperative, enthusiastic, and effective manner despite numerous competing requests.
Has excellent organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills to work effectively with patrons, staff, and visitors.
Employs best practices for employee supervision, including work planning, assignment, review, and evaluation, and the training of staff in work procedures.
Has a thorough knowledge of library operations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
At least one year prior successful work experience using an automated library system or equivalent as determined by the Executive Director.
Preferred and Desired Qualifications:
At least one year prior successful management experience preferred.
Public library experience preferred.
Acquisitions, technical services, or cataloging experience strongly desired.
Prior experience with Polaris ILS and Humanity software desired.
Bilingual skills (especially Spanish, French, or Chinese) desired.

Panel Interviews.
At least two people will be present on the panels.
Applicants will be asked a list of standard questions.
In the interviews, we will want to learn about you, your experiences, and how you would function in a library setting.
We expect to schedule these interviews in January 2024.

We will contact former employers of candidate finalists before making a decision.
Selection.
Although selection is based on the successful completion of all the above components, the nature of the selection process allows any single component to eliminate a candidate from further consideration.
As a final step, the Library hires a candidate from those who are available to accept the position.
